The Dowlish Wake village is a calm and relatively quiet village. However don’t be put off by this sleepy village appearance in the South Somerset country side.

The village has an interesting history, most notably from the Speke family, famous for finding the source of the Nile. The Dowlish Wake Heritage Archives website https://dowlishwakeheritage.org.uk  provides an interesting meander through the village life and life as it was over previous centuries.

Another aspect of famous inhabitants is their legacy in the village. The Dowlish Wake Village Hall was bought by villagers from the Speke family after conversion from being a school in 1952. It now provides a home for the Parish Council meetings and other clubs. It is also available for hire. Please see https://www.dowlishwake.com/village-hall
